From The Principal
Welcome to Owairaka District School where we provide quality education in a very positive environment. We are a multicultural school that values and appreciates students from all cultures. We enjoy learning from each other. We are constantly striving to increase student achievement and offer students a wide range of experiences in order for them to do so. Children are taught at their own level and are carefully monitored to ensure extra help or extension programmes are accessed when necessary.
Quotes from our ERO Report, May 2008
“The school’s mission statement promotes core values that are evident in all operations of the school. Students are eager and enthusiastic participants in their learning. Teachers share a strong belief that all students can achieve and promote the concept of the school motto ‘I can do it, you can do it and together we can achieve our goals’, through student goal setting. Students learn in a stimulating, exciting and safe learning environment.”
“The school provides high quality education that meets the needs of all students within this diverse community. Dedicated and hardworking teachers provide stimulating and challenging programmes in well-organised, attractive and welcoming class and school environments.”
We have an “Open Door Policy” and encourage community support and interaction. Parent helpers are very welcome.
Last year I was lucky enough to be granted a term’s sabbatical. During that time I visited a large number of schools in New Zealand and a few schools in Australia and Singapore. The main thing that I was looking at was how school’s engage their students and give them a voice. I looked particularly at Enviro Schools and schools that are performing very well.
